The tone at the top
Measuring professionalism and integrity within a police service
Speaker:
Robert Atkinson APM
Commissioner of Police, Queensland Police Service
Abstract:
This presentation will canvas three areas. Firstly, identification and examination of all areas of criticism, and the associated recommendations in relation to the then-named Queensland Police Force, in the Fitzgerald Inquiry report in July 1989. A comparison will be made from the situation at that time to the current status of each area in the Queensland Police Service 20 years on — as at July 2009.
Secondly, a review of quantitative and qualitative measures that can be considered in evaluating the organisational health of a Police Department (in the Qld context), in terms of: professionalism and integrity.
And, thirdly, we will discuss the nexus between those issues, and organisational and operational performance and public expectations.
