The second APSAC Conference — Australia’s leading anti-corruption conference — will be held in Brisbane over four days in July 2009.
It is held in Australia every two years, and is a joint initiative of the Crime and Misconduct Commission (QLD), the Independent Commission Against Corruption (NSW), and the Corruption and Crime Commission (WA).
This is a significant opportunity for Australian and international public officials to learn about contemporary anti-corruption trends and strategies, and to network with senior representatives of leading Australian public sector agencies. This year’s conference will also be of particular interest to health administrators, tertiary institutions and agencies providing services in remote locations, with sessions focussing on each of these areas.

APSACC 2009 Highlights |
|
The conference will provide the latest information on how to take responsibility for enhancing integrity in the public sector and to fight the risks of complacency about corruption; it will help delegates realise they don’t have to battle corruption alone.
The program includes an impressive line-up of high profile speakers and presenters:
- The Honourable Anna Bligh MP, Premier of Queensland will officially open the conference.
- Chief Justice of Queensland, the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, will deliver the day one plenary address.
- The day two plenary session will include a special video interview with Chris Masters, the former Four Corners journalist; in an interview with Quentin Dempster, Mr Masters will provide a unique insight into the Fitzgerald years, a significant part of Queensland history.
- The Tone at the Top session provides an opportunity for leading police from across Australia to discuss the role of executive officers in promoting integrity and professionalism in policing.
- Acclaimed international speakers include Professor Alan Lawton, from the University of Hull, UK, author of over 80 books and articles on public sector ethics, and Professor Indira Carr from the University of Surrey, UK, Kevin Brosseau of the Commission for Public Complaints Against the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Chair of the New Zealand Independent Police Conduct Authority, the Honourable Justice Lowell Goddard.
- The conference dinner will see the return of Bryan Dawe — well known political satirist, appearing as his alter-ego Sir Murray Rivers QC, a pompous, politically incorrect, former Victorian Supreme Court Judge.
- The CCC, ICAC and CMC will provide interesting and topical case studies from recent investigations.
- The conference will conclude with Kerry O’Brien hosting an entertaining and informative hypothetical with an anti-corruption bent exploring the topic ‘Queensland — beautiful one day and desperate for the developer dollar the next!’
